What is a PRP Injection?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative, non-surgical treatment designed to accelerate the body’s natural healing response. By using a concentrated dose of your own platelets—which are rich in powerful growth factors—we can target damaged joints, muscles, fascia, and ligaments to reduce inflammation and restore function.

While platelets are famous for their role in clotting, they also act as the body’s “first responders” for repair. When injected into an injured area, these growth factors trigger cell reproduction and stimulate the regeneration of soft tissue, cartilage, and bone.

The PRP Process:

  1. Blood Draw: A small sample of your blood is taken (similar to a routine lab test).
  2. Concentration: The blood is spun in a centrifuge to isolate and concentrate the platelets.
  3. Injection: The purified, high-potency plasma is injected directly into the joint, tendon, or muscle.

Because PRP uses your own biological material, it is a safe, repeatable option that significantly reduces the need for anti-inflammatory drugs or opioids. Results typically last from several months to over a year, depending on the severity of the injury.

What is PRP Treatment Used For?

At 1 Step Family Wellness, we use PRP to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions and chronic pain issues, including:

  • Joint Health: Knee osteoarthritis, meniscus tears, and back pain.
  • Shoulder Injuries: Rotator cuff tears, tendinitis, and shoulder impingement.
  • Chronic Tendon & Muscle Issues: Tennis elbow, ligament damage, and muscle strains.
  • Specialized Relief: TMJ dysfunction and chronic migraine relief.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PRP treatment safe?

Yes. PRP is considered very safe because it utilizes your own blood, which virtually eliminates the risk of allergic reactions or cross-contamination.

What are the side effects of PRP injections?

Side effects are typically minimal and temporary. Some patients may experience mild pain, swelling, or bruising at the site of the injection for a few days following the procedure.

Who should avoid PRP therapy?

PRP is not recommended for patients with certain blood disorders, active infections, or those currently taking blood-thinning medications. We recommend a consultation to ensure PRP is the right fit for your medical history.

Do I need to stop taking any medications before my appointment?

Yes. We advise patients to stop taking NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Advil, or Aleve) at least one week before treatment. These medications can interfere with the initial inflammatory response required to jumpstart the healing process.

What People Are Saying

The only place who was willing to treat pediatric lyme patients. Absolutely amazing care for the whole family. Incredibly knowledgeable and humble. They know how to heal people and are willing to respect the patient knows their own body and needs as well. The staff feel like family. Their chronic infection care is worth every penny. The large scope of care is amazing too. Hard to find any other a place with so many options for true healing.

I can not say enough good things about the doctors and staff. My kids have been going there for the last 2.5 years and we are working with Dr. Jeanne and Dr Michelle to clear hidden infections. When we started there my oldest had severe anxiety, OCD symptoms and rage. Within months of starting treatment my son was returning back to his old self. His tics, rage and anxiety were much lesser and he was enjoying trying new things (something he wouldn’t do before) Since then I have had each of my children tested and we are working on their health. Not only are they knowledgeable but they are so supportive and loving. I recommend them to everyone that I can.

Dr. Michelle is the best! We went to her, to help our son with PANDAS, and she has been AMAZING!!! we are finally getting our sweet boy back! There have been a few adjustments, where he was very aggressive and out of control of himself, she adjusted him, and he was right back to his normal, happy self! We will continue to see her, and will now be bringing our daughter to her!
