Pediatric

Infants and Children need to be adjusted too. This statement confuses most people because the public sees chiropractors as back doctors, but chiropractic is so much more. A chiropractor is trained to find and correct misalignments in the spine called subluxations. Subluxations cause interference to the nervous system which causes miscommunication from the nervous system to the rest of the cells of the body. Dysfunction in the spine can have a wide range of effects on a person’s health. The first subluxation is usually caused by the position in the womb or the birthing process itself. Even the most natural pregnancies and births can cause the infant to have physical stress on their spines and nervous system, not to mention a birth with interventions like forceps, vacuum extraction or cesarean section. When the nervous system is irritated by spinal and cranial misalignments, the following infant health complaints may show up:

  • Colic
  • Reflux
  • Breast Feeding Difficulties
  • Constipation
  • Sleeping Difficulties
  • Allergies
  • Ear Infections

Since significant spinal irritation can occur during pregnancy or a birth, many people choose to have their infants checked soon after birth to help prevent the health complaints listed above. It is also very important to have the infant checked at major milestones such as lifting the head, rolling over, sitting, crawling, standing, and walking since spinal alignment plays a huge role in these.

Older children should be checked throughout childhood due to the regular physical stressors on the body that occur such as sports, falls, wearing a back pack, playground activities, and sitting all day in the classroom. Some common childhood health complaints that may show up when the nervous system is irritated by spinal and cranial misalignments are: (list) bedwetting, allergies, ADD/ADHD, behavior issues, learning disabilities, and Autism.

  • Bedwetting
  • Allergies
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Behavioral Issues
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Autism

Chiropractic care is safe and effective for children of any age. Dr. Jeanne and Dr. Jana use gentle fingertip pressures tailored to infants and children to adjustment the spine and cranial bones to help decrease the interference to the nervous system and help the body function to the best of its ability. The adjustments are painless for children since they are so gentle. Parents report that children often enjoy getting adjusted and look forward to coming back to the chiropractor. Children respond to chiropractic care rather quickly, with their problem usually resolving in a few visits. The parents often bring the child back for regular check ups to make the the nervous system is functioning optimally during this rapid time of growth.
