Dr. Jana Flora, a Saint Louis native, began her journey in health following a severe knee injury in high school. The arduous recovery process led her to study chiropractic, as it proved to be an astounding way to facilitate natural healing and even prevent injury and illness. She completed her undergraduate studies at Southeast Missouri State University, where she received a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and a minor in Spanish.
Dr. Jana then attended Logan College of Chiropractic for the doctorate program. There she obtained training in a variety of techniques renowned for their gentle, specific adjustments and abundant supportive research. She also focused considerably on the philosophy and science of wellness, on nutrition, on functional movement rehabilitation, and wrote a research paper on psychoneuroimmunology. Furthermore, she invested in refining her Spanish communication skills, and was even invited to be a part of the first team to of chiropractors staffed by the Pan American Olympic Games held in Guadalajara, Mexico. She was awarded prestigious scholarships at both universities, and was on the Dean’s List for the entire eight years of her college career.
Upon graduating Cum Laude in 2012, Dr. Jana moved to Cuenca, Ecuador, where she opened up a successful chiropractic clinic. There she delivered chiropractic care for newborn babies, geriatric patients, and everyone in between. While she cherished her time in South America and gained invaluable clinical expertise, her heart eventually brought her back to St. Louis. She is thrilled to be a part of the team at 1st Step Family Wellness in Kirkwood, and to be able to apply her thorough chiropractic education and diverse experiences, to best help her patients in the St. Louis area towards their health goals.
In Dr. Jana’s first year of practice she developed a deep passion for caring for pregnant and pediatric patients, both from the enjoyment of treating them as well as from seeing the lifelong consequences of moms and children not receiving chiropractic care. As a result, she has relentlessly pursued opportunities to further her education in pregnancy and pediatrics, sifting through textbooks, attending seminars, and corresponding with mentors. She is currently working on her pediatric certification through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
Dr. Jana is married to her long time friend, Aaron, and has a wonderful step-daughter, Ezra, and two beautiful babies, Olivia and Myles. In her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, volleyball, tennis, paddle boarding, yoga, reading, and journaling. She is also a volunteer enthusiast, having been on a handful of mission trips and even helping out with an Earth Day celebration at a children’s center while on her honeymoon in Mexico. Most recently has worked with U City in Bloom to maintain garden beds in the community.
She has also been a volunteer enthusiast for nearly 15 years, coordinating various fundraisers and community service projects throughout her time in both undergraduate and graduate school, traveling for a number of domestic and international mission trips, and even helping out with an Earth Day celebration at a children’s center while on her honeymoon in Mexico. Throughout her first pregnancy she worked with University City in Bloom to help maintain garden beds in the community. Most recently she has volunteered with Greater St. Louis Babywearing, and coordinated the opportunity for the organization to utilize First Step Family Wellness’ office for a meeting space in which volunteers teach care providers how to safely and comfortably wear their babies and allow them to rent carriers from the group’s extensive library. Dr. Jana is also passionate about connecting families on their wellness journey; she recently started a Pathways Connect gathering group to create space for conversation and community among parents looking for holistic insights, empowering resources, and camaraderie in their path of conscious choice.
